What is a Retreat?

More than yoga.
A space to return to yourself.

A retreat at Chittamandara is not a holiday dressed in yoga clothes. It is an intentional immersion — held in a space carefully chosen for its stillness, beauty, and capacity to support deep rest and honest inquiry.

For one day, a weekend, or several days, you step away from your routines — your screens, your obligations, the constant noise of modern life — and enter a rhythm designed for reflection, movement, breath, and genuine connection with yourself and others.

Shruthi designs each retreat around a specific philosophical or therapeutic intention — weaving asana, pranayama, Yoganidra, group discussion, and periods of silence into a coherent, nourishing experience.

"When you step away from your life for even two days — not to escape it, but to see it more clearly — everything shifts. That is what a retreat can do that a weekly class cannot."

"A retreat is only as safe as the person holding it. I take that responsibility seriously — every design decision, every session, every silence is intentional."

Her approach to retreat design is shaped by both her yoga philosophy training and her background as a counsellor — which means the space she holds is emotionally safe, philosophically rigorous, and practically transformative. More than 5000 students have experienced her teaching across programmes, workshops, and retreats.

What Past Participants Say

Words from those who've been there.

"

The retreat was the most meaningful three days I have spent in years. Not a holiday — a genuine turning point. Shruthi held the space with such warmth and wisdom. I came back changed in ways I am still discovering.

Ranjitha M. Architect · Bangalore
"

I had never done a retreat before and was nervous. Within the first hour I felt completely held. The combination of yoga, philosophy, and Yoganidra was unlike anything I had experienced. I will come back every year.

Deepa S. Teacher · Mysore
"

What sets Shruthi's retreats apart is the depth. She is not just a yoga teacher — she is a counsellor, a philosopher, and a deeply caring human being. The retreat addressed things I didn't even know I was carrying.

No. Retreats are designed to welcome complete beginners alongside experienced practitioners. Shruthi adapts every practice session to the range of the group. What matters most is genuine openness — not prior experience.

Retreats are intentionally kept small — typically between 10 and 15 participants. This ensures that each person receives personal attention and that the group dynamic remains intimate and genuine.
